Joe Benner MS, LADC

"I care because you matter!"

I hold a masters degree in counseling from Western Connecticut State University. I am a Licensed Alcohol And Drug Counselor as well as a member of the American Counseling Association and the Western Chapter of the Connecticut Counseling Association. I completed internships in both agency and private practice settings specializing in treating substance abuse and the impact it has on the individual and the family system.

The questions of who am I, where am I going and what does it all mean can produce many challenges for each of us. I try to see the world through the eyes of the clients I work with to develop an action plan to identify goals, solutions and adjustments to help guide the transition of change. I help client’s in a collaborative approach to develop an understanding of self-empowerment and self-efficacy to form a foundation from which to grow. My work with clients involves traditional individual, family, group and couple counseling modalities as well as practical real life applications in a life-coaching setting.

Treatment Approaches

Your growth lies in making appropriate adjustments as your progression of change takes shape. I use various techniques including solution focused, humanistic and cognitive behavioral among others to assess strengths, obstacles, limitations and abilities in order to develop a comprehensive action plan that focuses on each client’s individual needs.
